Vietnam's Khanh Hoa province has started a pilot program this month offering visa exemptions for Chinese tourists. The initiative targets the coastal town of Nha Trang, known for its beaches, island-hopping scuba tours, and ancient Champa kingdom temples.
The move aims to reverse a steep decline in Chinese visitors. In 2019, Nha Trang attracted 2.5 million Chinese tourists, but by 2025 that number had fallen to 680,000.
The visa exemption pilot is part of a broader trend in the region, where resorts are competing to draw foreign visitors by easing travel procedures. The program focuses specifically on Chinese tourists, who were once a major source of tourism revenue for the area.
For travelers, this means Chinese tourists can now visit Nha Trang without a visa during the pilot period, potentially making trips easier and cheaper. Other travelers should check current visa requirements before planning a visit.
