The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism has highlighted the country's strong performance in the World Economic Forum's Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2026. Vietnam ranks among the world's top 10 for the Safety and Security indicator, scoring 6.52 points and climbing 18 places from 2024 to ninth position.
According to international reports referenced by the WEF, Vietnam benefits from a high level of safety awareness, a low crime rate, and a terrorism impact score of zero. These factors contributed to the country's high ranking in the Safety and Security indicator, which also considers confidence in police, perceptions of safety when walking alone at night, and homicide rates.
Vietnam's overall TTDI ranking improved by seven places to 52nd globally. The country also rose from fifth to third among Southeast Asian nations in visitor growth. In the first nine months of 2026, Vietnam welcomed 17.7 million international visitors, nearly 71% of its annual target of 25 million, and 126 million domestic tourists.
The country's appeal is also reflected in foreign media attention, with Travel + Leisure featuring Vietnam as part of a Southeast Asian journey, highlighting its history, culture, cuisine, and landscapes. At the 2026 World Travel Awards for Asia, Oceania and the Indian Ocean, Vietnam was named Asia's Leading Destination and Asia's Leading Heritage Destination.
For travellers, Vietnam's strong safety and security credentials, combined with favourable visa policies and expanding air connectivity, make it a stable and attractive destination choice, especially amid global uncertainties affecting tourism.
