Thailand travel advice

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice for Thailand, warning against all but essential travel to parts of the south near the Thailand-Malaysia border and the Hat Yai to Padang Besar train line due to regular attacks. It also advises against travel within 20km of the land border with Cambodia, where fighting occurred in July and December 2025, and land borders remain closed.

Severe flooding is affecting several provinces, including Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan, with all 50 districts of Bangkok declared disaster-affected areas. The Thai government has declared special public holidays on 28 and 29 September in these areas, leading to possible closures of government offices and travel disruption.

Escalation in the Middle East has caused widespread travel disruption, including airspace closures and flight cancellations, which may affect travel plans even if the destination is not in the Middle East. Travellers are advised to check transit country advice, monitor airline updates, and sign up for FCDO email alerts.

British nationals have been caught carrying cannabis out of Thailand, and airports use advanced detection technology; those caught face arrest or fines. The FCDO notes that travel insurance may be invalidated if travelling against its advice, and recommends appropriate insurance covering planned activities and emergencies.
