Euronews Travel & Tourism Summit 2026: Five of the key takeaways

Industry leaders and policymakers gathered at the Euronews Travel & Tourism Summit 2026 in Brussels on 29 September to discuss key issues facing the sector, including overtourism, undertourism, and climate change. The one-day event featured discussions on how destinations are adapting to current challenges.

Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama highlighted his country's transformation into a popular destination, noting a shift toward attracting higher-quality tourists. He mentioned that major hotel brands are planning to open properties in Albania, and that documents related to a controversial resort project would be released in the coming weeks.

Eduardo Santander, CEO of the European Travel Commission, warned that climate change is the biggest threat to tourism, causing disruptions like trains unable to run and cruise lines unable to sail on dry rivers. He also noted that travel is becoming more expensive, impacting affordability for tourists.

Other discussions included the promotion of multi-country itineraries in Central Europe, with Hungarian Tourism Agency President Olivér Csendes advocating for regional collaboration. The US Ambassador to Belgium, Bill White, announced plans to roll out Global Entry for Belgian citizens, which would expedite processing for pre-approved travelers arriving in the US.

On infrastructure, MEP Daniel Attard emphasized the need for better rail and airport connections to support lesser-known destinations that lack the facilities to attract tourists. He called for increased investment at the European level to create new connections and bolster aviation services.
