Azerbaijan Airlines will launch four weekly direct flights connecting Brussels and Baku starting 8 May 2027, according to the Azerbaijan Tourism Board chief executive. The announcement was made at the Euronews Travel & Tourism Summit 2026.
The Azerbaijani capital has been transformed into a regional hub over the past decade. Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport holds a five-star rating in Skytrax regional rankings, and the national carrier was named the best regional airline in Central Asia by Skytrax this year.
Tourism officials hope visitors will use Baku as a starting point to explore the rest of the country, including Silk Road routes, ancient heritage villages, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and the Greater Caucasus Mountains. The country offers diverse climate zones, from semi-desert landscapes to mountain peaks exceeding 4,000 metres.
In 2025, tourism in Azerbaijan generated 7 billion Azerbaijani Manat (EUR3.5 billion), accounting for 5.4% of the country's GDP. The country has attracted visitors through major events including Formula 1, Eurovision, and COP29.
For travellers, the new direct flights from Brussels will provide easier access to Baku and the opportunity to explore Azerbaijan's diverse attractions beyond the capital.
