Azerbaijan Tourism Board CEO: Baku-Brussels flights on horizon in 2027

Azerbaijan is set to enhance air connectivity for European travelers with new direct flights between Baku and Brussels. Azerbaijan Airlines will operate four weekly flights on this route starting May 8, 2027, as announced by Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, at the Euronews Travel & Tourism Summit 2026.

Sengstschmid noted that Baku has transformed into a regional hub over the past decade. Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport holds a five-star rating on Skytrax's regional rankings, and the national carrier was named the best regional airline in Central Asia by Skytrax this year.

While the new route improves connectivity, Sengstschmid encourages visitors to use Baku as a gateway to explore the country further. He highlighted traveling along the Silk Road, through side valleys, and visiting ancient heritage villages, as well as Azerbaijan's UNESCO World Heritage Sites and settlements in the greater Caucasus.
